Incognegro
Incognegro
By Mat Johnson and Warren Pleece
In the early 20th Century, lynchings were commonplace throughout the American South. A few reporters from the North risked their lives to expose these atrocities. They were African-American men who were light skinned enough to “pass” for white. They called this dangerous assignment going “incognegro”. This is the story of one such reporter who is sent to investigate the arrest of his own brother, charged with the murder of a white woman in Mississippi. With a lynch mob already gathering, the reporter must stay undercover long enough to discover the truth behind the murder so that he can save his brother – and himself.
