Best Sellers of 2024

Hello again everyone! Here’s our annual look at our best sellers across all three of our stores. We like seeing these trends, but also the individual flavors of each store and its customers.

With 3 years to look back on, we can see that some things continue to be popular year after year, whether the newest volume of an ongoing series, or just a mega popular book that never goes away!

But there are also some great new books that do extremely well. First up, we have The Fox Maidens by local superstar Robin Ha, which we were lucky enough to get an exclusive bookplate for. Transformers was a breakout hit, with the first volume matching the interest of the comic books.

As predicated, Saga 11 did just as well as the last volume. A few other sequels continued strong, like the conclusions to Amulet and Friday, as well as the new Dog Man and Something is Killing the Children. Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips continued their string of hit books with the occult thiller Houses of the Unholy.

Besides Dog Man and Amulet, other younger reader books did well like Sonic the Hedgehog and Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Our own Big Planet Comics anthologies continued to sell well!

Plus each store had its own individual favorites, like the massive popularity of manga at our Washington DC store reflected in Kowloon Generic Romance and Uzumaki and Blue Period and One Piece. Other staff favorites like Autumnal and The Nice House on the Lake and Immortal X-Men and Grog the Frog were big sellers. Spencer Ackerman coming to our DC store for a signing also turned his Waller vs Wildstorm into a bestseller.

Other books from our Best of 2024 picks were also strong sellers, such as Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees and Somna and Smoking Behind The Supermarket With You and The Deviant.

And here are the top 20 bestselling issues in 2024 from our stores!

The theme this year was definitely the breakout hits of relaunched superhero comics, whether as new universes, or new storylines with new creators. DC Comics started the Absolute universe, with new takes on Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, while Marvel Comics restarted a new version of their Ultimate universe where there were no superheroes (at least at first). The X-Men wrapped up the years long Krakoa stories with new stories for all their characters. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got a new start, too. And the Justice League finally reformed into a new team as Justice League Unlimited.

Besides new series, crossover events also are big, like Blood Hunt and the Fall of the House of X that lead into the new X-Men series.

A few perennial favorites stayed as strong as ever, such as Batman and Saga and Avengers and Spider-Man.

There were a few new hits, like the epic fantasy Helen of Wyndhorn and Aliens vs. Avengers. And of course Spencer Ackerman’s Iron Man is off to a strong start.
